Reaching the Coast from Jayena
While the coast is only about 25 kilometers away as the crow flies, the mountainous terrain means it takes approximately 1 to 1.5 hours to get there, depending on the beach and route you choose.
Two Main Routes:
Scenic but Winding Direct Route:
Distance: 45 kilometers
Time: About 90 minutes
Description: This route, the A-4050, offers stunning views but is not for the faint of heart. It's a winding road that can be slow, especially as it's a popular cycling route. There are a couple of restaurants along the way where you can stop for a coffee.
Faster Motorway Route:
Time: About 60 minutes
Description: This route takes you through Padul and offers a faster journey to the coast. From there, you can choose your destination. This route also provides access to the Alpujarras, a region of high mountain villages.
Exploring the Costa Tropical
The Costa Tropical, known for its Mediterranean climate, is typically 3-5 degrees warmer than Jayena. The beaches here are generally quieter than those around Malaga, and there are plenty of activities to enjoy, including cliff walks, hidden beaches, coastal boat trips, and exploring charming fishing towns and resorts.
Popular Destinations:
Salobrena: An charming town with with narrow streets and a Castle in the middle.
Nerja: A well-known fishing town with beautiful beaches. Its a favourite of Judy;s
Frigiliana: A picturesque white village located inland from Nerja.

Almunecar: Home to a water park that's open from mid-June to mid-September.
Water Sports:
Enjoy water sports like boating, SUP, and kayaking at Maro beach and other locations along the coast.
Salobrena
Salobrena is a lovely long beach with an amazing castle overlooking the beach. it is the nearest beach to the house about 45 mins by road .
Its an old Moorish castle and has a been a defensive site for 100's of years. It was fought over by the Moors and Christians many times.
Opening hours of the castle of Salobreña:
Daily 10:00-1:30 pm and 4:00-5.30 pm.
Entrance fee is € 4 per person. Children under the age of 12 have free access.
Salobrena also has a lovely beach thats nice for a refeshing swim and has a selection of beach resturants for a lovely meal.
