Grocery Stores:
Supermercado Hidalgo Moles: Located on Calle Victoria, this minimarket offers the widest selection of food, wine, meat, and vegetables in the village. It's about 500 meters from the house. Very friendly
Village Square Shops: Two smaller shops on the square provide a basic range of food and essentials. One of them also sells fresh bread and pastries daily.
Bread Van: A bread van visits Calle Sol every morning (at least 3 times), so listen for its distinctive beep to get your fresh bread.
Local Cakes: For local cakes, head to Encarnación Rodríguez Martín on Calle XIII de Junio, which is also a popular weekend spot for morning coffee with the roadies from Granada.
Specialty Shops:
Olive Co-op: Located on the outskirts of the village towards Fornes, this co-op sells olives, olive oil, and even olive diesel! You can also find olives at the village square chocken vanon Sundays.
Fish Van: A fish van visits the village weekly around 9:00 AM, offering fresh seafood.
Pharmacy: The local well stocked pharmacy ( Open 6 days a week normally 9.00-14.00 and the 17.30 to 20.30) (check window)
Post Office: This opens for around 30 minutes weekdays
Giftshop: This eclectic shop sells a variety of items, including socks, wool, and flowers.
Ironmongery: If you need any kitchen supplies or bike maintenance items, check out the local ironmongery.
Market: There is a local market on every Wednesday, in Avenida del Arco. It is a very small market with very variable stalls
Dining and Entertainment:
Bars: Jayena has two or three bars that open most nights, and a couple more that open on summer weekends. These are village bars so are often very quiet midweek. Enjoy a beer and possibly some tapas, although for quality andalusian tapas you should head for Granada or the local market town Alhama de Granada.
Chicken Van: Don't miss the popular chicken van that visits the square on Saturday lunchtimes, offering delicious roast chicken, chips, and olives. We will put in his whatsapp so you can pre order directly from the Van
Cash Machines: There are two ATMs in the village , one opposite town hall and one at the other bank branch
Larger Shopping Options:
Arriving From Malaga. Malaga has all the normal shops either close to the airport or on the way out. Loja has a Lidl and a Mercadona just off the A-92 from Malaga.
Local Supermarket
Alhama de granada has a selection of local shops which are open most hours
Flores has a good village shop that is often open late
Lidl: As you drive from Jayena towards Granada, you'll pass a large Lidl supermarket about 40 minutes away. There is also a Mercadona past Padul on the way to the coast.
Shopping Center: There's a huge shopping center on the way from Malaga Airport, offering a wide range of clothing and other items and Granada has a massive shopping center, Nevada which is only about 30 mins from the house.
Alhama de Granada and Granada: Both of these towns have additional shopping options, including supermarkets and specialty stores.
